First of Summer

Summer! It honestly is my favorite season and time of the year. When I was still a student, I liked it that summer was a long period for me to be free from deadlines and school errands. Also, it was a time for vacation and staycation. Happy me if I get invited to a beach or pool getaway because I love these kind of outings and I always seem to gravitate towards the waters.

After climbing Osmena Peak, we stayed at Dakong Bato Beach and Leisure Resort in Dalaguete. On the second day of our stay there, this was what we did aside from swimming – taking loads of photos in the pool. Thanks to Vanessa’s GoPro. We had gotten to try shooting underwater, attempting to copy poses from the talented instagrammers from the waters of Bahamas. LOL for trying.

Osmeña Peak

Osmeña Peak. It is known as the highest peak in the province of Cebu. It was a backpacking adventure I had with my best friend, her boyf and girl friends. It was also my first climb. From the city, we arrived in Dalaguete at around 6am then rode a motorcycle (habal-habal) en route to the base of the peak. It was a butt-numbing 30-minute ride really but I took joy in seeing the greenery, vegetable farms, pine trees and mountains we passed by. During this time, the sun has already risen but it was still very cold and foggy. I desperately wished for the sun to send its rays and warmth quickly. Once we've arrived at the base of the peak, we were welcomed by local kids who eagerly wanted to assist and guide us during the trek. On the way to the top, we often stopped to take photos and selfies. We also met locals carrying huge baskets of vegetables (after all, this place is known as the Vegetable Basket of Cebu) and other trekkers along the way and we would just greet them a good morning or a smile.

The climb took us around 20-30 minutes. By the time we reached the top, it was still so foggy that the view is yet covered. Then, a light bulb of recognition in my brain made me think we’re like in someplace in the LOTR. LOL. Insert Frodo, Sam, or Smeagol. The 360-degree view on top was undeniably beautiful. It kind of looks like Bohol's Chocolate Hills but in a rockier and jaggier form. Maybe Cebu could make its own version of Peanut Kisses inspired by it. Hehe

I feel so grateful to have witnessed this God-give wonder of nature. If you’re just in Cebu, try to visit it at least once. It is an easy climb even for beginners. After enjoying the view, there is an option for trekkers to traverse to Kawasan Falls which is a 7-hour trek (and which I would like to try next time) or to head back to the base of Osmeña Peak.
